Buzau, Romania Plant

The Buzau facility in Romania was acquired by Hoeganaes Corporation in November, 2003. The facility manufactures iron and diffusion alloy powders and premixes, mainly for the PM industry, and also services the welding industry as well as other industrial applications.

The plant is located in the town of Buzau in South-Eastern Romania, and is the only manufacturer of metal powders in the South Eastern region of Europe.

The plant in Buzau was founded in 1995 by Ductil Company, the former wire and wire products company, to service the electrode producer, an investment which was funded by the Government of Romania. The initial capacity of the plant was 10,000 tons/ year, having one 6-ton Electrical Arc Furnace and one walking beam annealing furnace, manufacturing mainly welding grades. After its acquisition by the Hoeganaes Corporation, the facility was expanded through capital investment. The current facility has a capacity of 45,000 tons/year and is producing more than 15 grades of iron powders. The products manufactured at the Buzau facility support both the European and Asian markets.
